Our Story

Addie was diagnosed with unilateral, non-hereditary Retinoblastoma in October of 2020 after her parents noticed a white glow in her left pupil. A large tumor was found and treatment was started right away. Addie traveled monthly to receive multiple rounds of Intra-Arterial Chemotherapy and Intravitreal Chemotherapy Injections. Both treatments seemed to be making great progress in her eye. Unfortunately, after 5 months of treatment, Addie developed a toxic reaction to the chemotherapy medications, causing severe inflammation in her Retinoblastoma eye as well as inflammation in her right, healthy eye.  She was then diagnosed with an autoimmune disease called Sympathetic Ophthalmia and immediately had her left eye enucleated to save vision in her right eye. Addie now has a prosthetic left eye.  She continues to be monitored for retinoblastoma and continues treatment for Sympathetic Ophthalmia with multiple medications and eye drops. Throughout it all, Addie has remained happy and brave. Her continued joy through difficult times is inspiring.

Throughout Addie’s Retinoblastoma journey, we have been blessed with an amazing support team. Addie has received countless prayers, gifts, financial contributions, and encouragement.  With Project Eye Can Help, we hope to bless other families going through similar situations so that every child can have the support team, encouragement, and help they deserve.
